Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions Free For PC is a puzzle game developed and published by Onyx Lute. It was released on 28 Feb 2019.If you loved the first Glass Masquerade, you will most certainly love Glass Masquerade 2: ILLusions, its a lot of the same, only with more mystery and More amazing stain glassed pictures. They are wonderfully made, so pretty in every way. I will certainly enjoy completing these puzzles over a course of time, they are great for relaxing too, and the in between's of other games and real life chores, work etc!. The initial game which sparked the series, went for an Art Deco style which envisioned national symbols as part of a World Exhibition concept spanning the globe and taking players across imaginary trips through countries on nearly all continents. The nations in question were represented by various cultural symbols defining their identity without any hint of controversy in sight. As for the puzzles themselves, they revolved around a clock pattern of various size and shape. Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions sets itself apart through not only a thematic overhaul, but also by raising the proverbial stakes through a more complex planning of the puzzle reconstruction. Yes, on top of being fully abstract, GM 2 is also a tad more difficult than the previous entry. That is a good thing and I shall address it further below. For now let’s focus on the game’s improvement on the narrative segment since unlike Glass Masquerade, the sequel now features riddles which form a blurry picture right until the conclusion. The sequel brings back its stained glass jigsaw approach with a more sinister Wonderland theme. The new designs might be divisive on a few fronts. They don't have the same whimsical appeal of the former's whistle-stop tour of the globe's countries. They're not very readable either - sometimes not even when finished! This affects gameplay in making your completion reliant on discerning shapes more than anything else. An upside, potentially, if you're looking for a challenge, but maybe frustrating for others. That they're gorgeously done is still incontestable. The often philosophical musings that inform each design are also neat. They're something a bit more than an accompanying country name.
Abstract and absurd symbolism in the vein of Lewis Carrol’s writings, point towards a focal point upon keys and locks behind every single mystery/puzzle you shall assemble. Each lock poses a question or offers a statement which can make sense or not. Similarly, the key you shall gain after completing the puzzle itself may raise further questions instead of providing answers. GM 2’s narrative thread leaves plenty of room for debating and I consider it fitting given the gameplay and circumstances. We don’t even have clock patterns anymore. A standardised circular design has taken its place and while it may seem like a step backawards, keep in mind that certain puzzles are now several times larger than the ones in the previous entry. It’s all about fragmentation, you see. The imagery which eventually gets revealed as a direct result of your efforts, may seem like a modernist interpretation of various myths. The best new feature are the two difficulty levels. The Normal mode is the same as Glass Masquerade 1. The pieces are already rotated in the correct orientation, and you just place them in the puzzle area. However, the new Hard mode is sheer brilliance. So simple, yet it adds SO MUCH to the game. In Hard mode, you have to rotate the pieces to their correct orientation yourself. This adds quite a bit of challenge,
After selecting your level, a new screen will appear with a large circle in the middle, where you’ll have to place the glass fragments (shards) which are located on two other rings around the main circle. It’s very simple to select them; all you have to do is left click on the shard you want, and it will be up to you to place it within the main circle. But here lies a slight problem . The shards are all sorts unusual and convoluted shapes. Yes, you will be given a few fragments to place at the start of each level and but you can miss them as they have a swirl on them. Then it will take you from 20 minutes on the normal difficulty to 60 minutes on the hard one to finish the splendid stained glass. The first puzzle has 33 shards while the last has 88 to place. You can also decide if you want to play on the normal or the hard difficulty. The beauty is that you can swap from one to the other at any given time during each of the levels, which is pretty cool. The main difference between the two difficulties is that on the highest difficulty, you’ll have to rotate each shard yourself to try to fit it within the circle. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, to say the least, and it’s a surprisingly addictive game. It truly becomes exciting each time you correctly place a shard in the right spot and see the magnificent stained glass design developing.

- Unique puzzles made of shards
- Easy to play
- Two levels of difficulty
- Achievement and trading cards

A year ago, almost down to the exact date, the original Glass Masquerade released on the Switch. It featured a series of stained-glass themed puzzles and was a very simple game right out of the gate. There were no gimmicks in the mechanics, just your very straightforward put-together-a-puzzle game. So it’s only natural that for it’s sequel, Glass Masquerade 2 : Illusions things were kept just as simple.
Last time, we toured the world. We pieced together various clock inspired puzzles featuring themes and visuals from all over the entire world. This time we won’t be touring the world, but instead we’ll dive into the riddling depths of the mind as you’re trapped in a dream you’ll need to free yourself from.
A total of 31 puzzles separate you from that freedom, and how you piece them together is exactly how you did it the last time. Each puzzle consists of at least a few dozen pieces, some having upwards of 60 pieces. To start, there will be eight anchor pieces, and you’ll know which ones they are since they will have small circles on one of their edges. These circles correspond to a position in the puzzle building space, and once they’re in place you’ll be on your own for the rest. To place all the other pieces its a matter of getting the right piece into the right position.
All pieces start off on the outer rims around the puzzle area, and they stay there as silhouettes until you pick one up. Once you do, you’ll be able to see the piece’s size and colors, and depending on which difficulty you play on you’ll see how the piece is oriented in the puzzle too. The lower difficulty will spin the piece automatically, but on the harder one you’ll need to rotate it yourself. Rinse and repeat at least a few dozen times and you’ll have your masterpiece!
Completing each puzzle will yield you one of two rewards. The first of these rewards are keys, which only serve to unlock the next puzzles. How many keys is a matter of how many forking paths there are from the puzzle you’ve completed. But it will always be at least one, unless the puzzle you’ve done is at the end of a line. If this is the case, your reward will be fragments. These fragments are the pieces that make up the grand finale puzzle, and there are 88 in total, but to be able to complete this puzzle you’ll obviously need to complete all the others.
While Glass Masquerades 2 does a great job of keeping just about everything from the same from the first game, there was one thing they changed that I found a little upsetting. In the first game the puzzles took on various shapes, inspired by countless styles of clock faces. In the sequel, they’re all simple circles. In fact, they’re all the same simple circle.
In the end, this is a very basic puzzle game that you really can’t squeeze much more out of. This is definitely intended for the much more relaxed and casual gamer, but it requires no commitment for time as you play. Feel free to rest the console between the puzzles or even in the middle of one if you’re playing on the go. My only real complaint about this one was the sameness in the shape of all the puzzles, but they are incredibly beautiful works of art once you finish them. The ambient soundtrack is calm and relaxing, making for the perfect mix while you put these pieces together.
Glass Masquerade 2 Illusions
If you’re looking for a more intense game, this won’t be one for you. But trust me, this one is worth picking up even if this type of game isn’t totally your thing. My wife isn’t a big gamer, nor is she a fan of puzzles, but even she enjoyed spending some time playing this, or watching and assisting. So I urge you to consider adding Glass Masquerade 2 to your Switch digital library today.
